What an income tax consultant handles

  • Returns: ITR for salaried people, professionals, traders, firms, LLPs and companies, with AIS and Form 26AS reconciliation. See ITR filing in Noida.
  • Tax planning: old versus new regime, deductions, salary structuring, and the choice between presumptive taxation and regular books for businesses and professionals.
  • Advance tax: working out and paying instalments by 15 June, 15 September, 15 December and 15 March, so interest doesn't build up.
  • Capital gains: sale of property, shares and mutual funds, reinvestment to save tax, and TDS on property purchase.
  • Notices and assessments: defective return notices, intimations with adjustments, scrutiny notices, reassessment, and appeals.
  • Updated returns (ITR-U): correcting income that was missed in an earlier return before the department finds it.
  • NRIs: returns for Indian income, TDS on property sales, and DTAA relief.

2026: two Acts at the same time

The Income-tax Act, 2025 applies from 1 April 2026, with a single "tax year" and new section and form numbers. Returns, assessments and notices for FY 2025-26 and earlier years still run under the Income-tax Act, 1961. A notice for an old year has to be answered under the old law, and this year's TDS and planning follow the new one. Our note on what the 2025 Act changes has the details.

Got an income tax notice?

  1. Check it is genuine. Every notice has a Document Identification Number (DIN). Verify it on the e-filing portal.
  2. Note the section and the reply date. An intimation of an adjustment, a scrutiny notice and a reassessment notice each need a different response.
  3. Collect the basics: the return for that year, AIS and Form 26AS, bank statements and any documents the notice asks for.
  4. Reply on the portal before the date, or ask for more time in writing before it passes.
  5. Don't ignore it. An unanswered notice usually ends in an assessment made on the department's numbers, with interest and penalty.

If you have a demand pending, our note on tax recovery after CBDT Notification 120/2026 explains what the department can and can't do.

Frequently asked questions

What do you charge for income tax work?

It depends on the return type and what's involved: salary only, capital gains, business income or a notice. We quote a fixed fee after a short call, before starting.

Can you handle a scrutiny notice for an earlier year?

Yes. We review the notice and your return, prepare the reply with documents, file it on the portal and represent you in the faceless proceedings. Earlier years stay under the 1961 Act.

I missed some income in an old return. What can I do?

An updated return (ITR-U) lets you report it with additional tax, provided no notice has been issued for that year. It is usually much cheaper than waiting for the department to find it.

Do I need to pay advance tax?

If your tax for the year, after TDS, is ₹10,000 or more, yes. Salaried people with no other income usually don't, because TDS covers it. Professionals, business owners and people with large capital gains usually do.

Do you work with NRIs?

Yes. We file returns for Indian income, handle TDS and capital gains on property sales, and claim treaty relief where it applies.
