For years, every director in India filed DIR-3 KYC by 30 September. That has changed. The Companies (Appointment and Qualification of Directors) Amendment Rules, 2025 (G.S.R. 943(E), 31 December 2025), effective 31 March 2026, moved director KYC to a three-year cycle.
The new rule in short
- Every person holding a DIN files KYC once in every three consecutive financial years, on or before 30 June of the year after that block.
- Directors whose KYC was already up to date: the MCA has indicated the next filing is due by 30 June 2028. Nothing was due on 30 September 2026.
- The e-form DIR-3 KYC and DIR-3 KYC Web have been merged into a single form, DIR-3 KYC Web.
The 30-day rule for changes
The three-year cycle does not mean you can ignore changes. If your mobile number, email address or residential address changes, you must update it through DIR-3 KYC Web within 30 days. The OTPs for every MCA filing go to these details, so an old number will also block your company's filings.
If your DIN is deactivated
- A DIN is marked "Deactivated due to non-filing of DIR-3 KYC" if the KYC is not done in time.
- A director with a deactivated DIN cannot sign any MCA form, so the company's AOC-4, MGT-7 and other filings stop.
- The fix is to file DIR-3 KYC Web with the late fee. The DIN is reactivated once the form is approved.
Check your status in two minutes
- Go to the MCA portal and use the "Verify DIN/DPIN/PAN" service, or look at the director list in the company's master data.
- Check that the status shows "Approved" and not "Deactivated".
- Confirm the mobile number and email on record are the ones you use today.
Before AOC-4 (31 December 2026) and MGT-7 (31 January 2027), check the DIN of every director who will sign. A deactivated DIN found in the last week is the most common reason a filing misses the relief window.
